Couleur – jaune pâle à jaune citron.
Éclat – vitreux.
Transparence – transparent.
Système cristallin – orthorhombique, mm
Morphologie – cristaux prismatiques courts et masses cristallines.
Clivage – {010} distinct.
Cassure – conchoïdale.
Dureté – 3.
Densité – 2,6 g/cm
Trait – blanc.
Associations minérales – calcite, fluorite, pectolite et thénardite.
Autres propriétés – aucunes.
Étymologie – nommée en 1940, d’après Maxwell Naylor Short (1889-1952), professeur Américain de minéralogie.
